Real Wedding - Kay and Chris

Real Wedding - Kay and Chris

WHERE: Biggar Kirk Church, Scotland

WHEN: 10th June 2005

PHOTOGRAPHER: Shadow Photography

HOW THEY MET

Kay and Chris both worked for the same company, Kay based in Wales and Chris in Scotland. They were both seconded to an office in England for two weeks at exactly the same time. Fate!

THE PROPOSAL

Chris suggested they went to the shops "to look at rings". They had been together for four and a half years, and it wasn't really that romantic, but a lovely idea just the same!

SHE WORE

Kay's ivory satin two piece dress was made by two different designers. Her strapless bodice came from the Benjamin Roberts range which she found in All About Eve in Newport. The A-line skirt was made by one of the shop's suppliers. The bodice had beautiful "V" shape beading of pearls and crystals cascading down the front and onto the back. The skirt had a Georgian drape in the front and a train which was pinned up into a bustle for the evening.

ACCESSORIES

Kay wore pretty silver drop earrings, a beautiful silver necklace and a matching bracelet. Her shoes were silk, duchess satin called "Paris" from the Diane Hassall range. Kay bought a new perfume especially for the day which she had never worn before, so it would always remind them both of their wedding day.

HE WORE

Chris, being a true Scotsman, already owned his outfit - a kilt! He wore black socks, jacket, waistcoat and ruche. Chris's kilt is from his own clan - Patterson being part of the MacLaren clan.

THE BRIDESMAIDS

Kay had one bridesmaid who wore a strapless, full length dress by Linzi Jay, in a vibrant pink colour with small pink crystals scattered on the bodice. Teamed with a delicate tiara with tiny matching pink crystals and it looked gorgeous.

THE TRANSPORT

Kay and Chris' friend owns a large silver BMW and he was more than happy to play chauffer for the occasion.

THE FLOWERS

Kay's bouquet was made up of lovely aqua roses and her bridesmaid had a smaller posy of ivory roses. The male wedding party wore thistle buttonholes and for the pew ends a single pink gerbera sat in a thin vase with a pink ribbon tied around.

SPECIAL MOMENTS

"Being piped down the aisle to "Highland Cathedral" was a highlight for me, he was a fantastic piper and everyone commented on it. The minister was excellent, he made everyone feel so welcome and at ease, he made the entire ceremony an absolute joy, a real celebration. To add the Welsh twist to the ceremony one of the hymns sung was "Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer". A special moment for me was during the ceremony, I was so emotional that (after sobbing my way down the aisle) Chris took my hand and held on tightly for the majority of the service - the photographer also noticed and captured this on film."

THE THEME

Kay and Chris didn't really have a theme as such, they incorporated both Scottish and Welsh into their stationery and during the day, pink featured a lot throughout the day as this is Kay's favourite colour.

THE CAKE

The amazing two tier chocolate sponge was covered in white icing with a thin silver and pink ribbon around the bottom of each tier. To top the cakes off, various fresh pink flowers similar to the reception table centres were placed on top.

THE FAVOURS

The ladies were given a pale pink candle holder decorated with pink jewels and inside sat a pink scented candle. The men were each given a small bottle of whiskey.

BRIDES TIP

"My advice would be to do things exactly how you and your husband-to-be want them to be, when all is said and done, it is your wedding day and you don't want to look back after the event and wish you had done things differently. You don't necessarily need a huge budget, just look around and often you can get just what you're looking for within your price range. Most importantly, enjoy the whole experience and don't stress about every little thing!"

THE HONEYMOON

Kay and Chris spent their honeymoon travelling around the United States. They started off in Los Angeles, where they spent a few days in Hollywood seeing the sights and attractions. Then they drove San Diego where they spent five nights, here they visited Sea World, San Diego zoo and the Wild Animal Park. Then it was onto Florida where they stayed at the beautiful Sanibel Harbour resort in Sanibel for eight nights. A particular highlight for them was watching the wild dolphins playing close to the shore from their balcony.
