Real Wedding - Karen and David

Real Wedding - Karen and David

WHERE: St. Isan's Church, Cardiff

WHEN: 14th September  2006

PHOTOGRAPHER: PS Photographic

HOW THEY MET

Karen and David are both police officers and started work at the same police station on the same shift - they regularly worked as a pair.

THE PROPOSAL

David proposed to Karen on the 18th September 2005 in their kitchen.

SHE WORE

Karen designed her perfect dress and arranged for it to be made. Made from ivory crepe, with a chiffon overlay it had a few tiny crystals scattered over it with chiffon gathered to the one side, and a scoop neck line with thin straps. The back had a low back line and a train.

ACCESSORIES

Karen's diamond solitaire earrings were bought for her by David the Christmas before and he bought her the matching necklace as a wedding gift. Her shoes were ivory with small diamante detail on them bought from Ravel.

HE WORE

David hired his charcoal grey colour suit from The Welsh Tartan Centre, Cardiff. He teamed it up with an ivory waistcoat and cravat.

THE BRIDESMAIDS

The four adult bridesmaids wore beautiful three-quarter length, mint green dresses made from satin backed crepe. They had thin straps, were fitted around the body and floaty around the skirt. The two flowergirls wore ivory coloured chiffon dresses with a mint green ribbon around the waist to match the older ones.

THE FLOWERS

Karen’s bouquet was a tied bunch of yellow and white roses and the younger bridesmaids held a mini version. The adult bridesmaids had corsages of yellow roses.

TRANSPORT

Karen arrived in style in a 1929 black and white Daimler while the bridesmaids arrived in a fabulous limousine.

RECEPTION

To tie in with the theme the table centre pieces were bowls filled with yellow roses. Karen’s brother organised a quiz, so that people on the tables would talk to each other - it was a great icebreaker and the winning table got a round of drinks.

THE CAKE

Karen made the five-tier wedding cake herself. Decorated in white icing with yellow and green ribbon at the bottom of each tier she topped it with fresh yellow roses. It made a lovely feature on the day.

THEME

They based their theme around all of the places that they were going to be visiting on their honeymoon and the colour scheme was green and yellow.

BRIDES TIP

“Do as much as you can yourself. Making all the stationery and the cake saved me so much money. Also designing my own dress and having it made worked out cheaper than buying one from the shop and it was exactly as what I wanted and the fit was perfect. This was the same with the bridesmaids’ dresses. I got most of my ideas from Wedding Ideas magazine.”

SPECIAL MOMENTS

“The whole day was special, it was the best day of our lives and there is nothing we wish to change about it - it worked out exactly as planned”.

THE HONEYMOON

Karen and David spent six weeks traveling; they started off in Singapore before heading off to Northern Australia. Then they made their way down the east coast, using internal flights and greyhound busses which took them four and a half weeks. They stopped off on all the main tourist spots on the way - Ayres Rock, diving in the Great Barrier Reef, they climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, went to Ramsey Street. Then they spent a few days in Las Vegas, where they took a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon and had a champagne breakfast there before finishing off with a few days in Los Angeles!
