Plannin and Etiquette tips with Ant and Dick!

Location, location?

I am after some great venue ideas in Havering, Essex or close proximity. We need to cater for 200 and a possible sit-down meal for a minimum of 96 and the remainder arriving for the evenings festivities.

Louise

Ant says..."I have consulted my wedding venue crystal ball and have found quite a few venues in the Havering area. They range from premier hotel inns to private free houses. A few suggestions for you are: The Manor Hotel and Restaurant (this is my fave), the Dukes Hall, or any of the other chain hotels that are around. "

The gloves are off!

My partner and I met across a boxing ring as opponents in a kickboxing fight (it was love at first fight!). We would love to theme our wedding around martial arts, but just can’t find anything linked to it.

Paula

Ant says..."How about naming the tables after martial arts greats such as Bruce Lee? Then perhaps you could do a Chinese-themed décor and have a Chinese buffet for the evening food – different food stations would work well. Favours could be fortune cookies and fire crackers, and tables could be lit with mini lanterns. "

Meet in the middle

Not really a planning issue but a dilemma before we even start planning! Malcolm and I live in the UK, we met in Austria but are originally from Australia (myself) and South Africa. We both want a small wedding but the problem is where to have it. My dad is disabled so cannot travel and Malcolm has a huge family and it would cost too much to transport them all. We are really stuck… please help!

Tracy

Richard says..."I would suggest that you have two parties, let’s call it the Round the World Wedding Party – you could make it really fun! Have your ceremony in Australia, then get on a plane after a lunch reception and go straight to a party and religious blessing (maybe) with the family in South Africa, so that the only people who need to fly are you and your new husband. That way you get to see all the family within 24 hours, have a holiday in Australia, and then your honeymoon in South Africa! Why not think about a webcam, too? Then your friends and family can follow your proceedings around the globe!"

Church restrictions

I would like to get married in a church, but I know there are restrictions on getting married in a different parish to the one that we live in. I’m now completely lost!

Sarah

Richard says..."The Church of England synod last year loosened the rules on this, to allow couples to get married in a church that is not in their parish. This did have to be confirmed by Parliament and according to the communications department at the Church of England, you can choose your church from 1st October 2008. There are some regulations and certain processes that need to be adhered to - have a look at our column on this website and we’ll have it all detailed there. Good luck! "
