FUNKY FLOWER IDEAS

Hello boys! Bit of a problem – my wedding colours are ivory, black and gold. My bridesmaids are in black and my flowergirls are in ivory dresses with black sashes. I need bouquet ideas for me and my adult bridesmaids. Someone suggested Grand Prix red roses? Please help!

Nicola Connolly

Ant says… "Hi Nicola. My instant thought is black tulips with perhaps gold or indeed red (sprayed) grass pulled through, or perhaps you could go for long-stem lillies, sprayed so that they appear white and graduate to black at the top, then a gold rim rubbed on the edges… that could be very striking! Whatever you decide, you are going to need a proper consultation with a florist. I wish you the very best of luck my darling, I am sure you will sparkle beautifully!"

Made for your mum

Are there any MOTB shops you can recommend in the Kent area, who will offer fashionable advice but won't make my mum look tacky or like mutton dressed as lamb?

Lily

Ant says… "There are many fantastic boutiques scattered around Kent – I would suggest looking at the villages around you that are quite affluent and I can promise you the outfit she is dreaming of will be there! I live in Chislehurst and could dress her ten times over from the three main boutiques here, so I am quite sure that you could the same. In fact, that's what I think you should do! Get in the car and pop over to Chislehurst – Foxes Brasserie do a lovely lunch menu and then you can browse the beautiful fashions on the high street. Good luck!"

Honeymoon gifts

Instead of a wedding list, we are asking guests if they wish to contribute to our honeymoon. To do this, they have to ring and give my name and a reference number. I was wondering how you would word all that on an invite so it sounded appropriate.

Laura Heslop

Richard says… "I think you can make this very simple: ‘Your presence at our wedding is gift enough but if you do wish to buy us a gift, a contribution towards our dream honeymoon would be greatly appreciated.' Have a look at our website and contact me directly if you need more info."

Invitation wording

We're doing our own invitations and so far, I have this: 'Mr Wayne O'Connor and Miss Anastasia Woodrow would like you to witness their marriage at xxxxx on Saturday 4th October 2008 at 1.30pm. Onto the reception at xxxxx. Please RSVP (our address).' But we need to somehow add in that if they can't come to both parts of the wedding, they can just come to one.

Stasi

Richard says… "You seem to be happy to invite all your guests to both parts of your wedding, which is exactly the traditional approach. Therefore I would expect guests to reply in a traditional way – yes if they can come to everything, and no if they can't – there's no halfway house! But if this is really what you want to offer (even though this may be slightly more stressful for you to organise), I would suggest a small tick box on the RSVPs: 'We would love to attend the ceremony/evening reception/both.' Ask your stationer to work this into your invitation design."
