Real Wedding - Gary and Amy

Real Wedding - Gary and Amy

WHERE:St Leonard’s Church, Leverington, Cambridgeshire

WHEN:4th August, 2007

PHOTOGRAPHER: Chris Hatcher

How they met

Amy and Gary used to work together.

Proposal

Gary proposed to Amy when they were in Bath for a weekend in April 2006… There was no-one else around as they took a morning walk from the hotel, and when Amy turned round, Gary was down on one knee holding a ring!

She wore

An Essence of Australia ivory dress – it was A-line, duchess satin and had a detailed bodice encrusted with Swarovski crystals, bugle beads and sequins. It had a sweetheart neckline and the skirt had an organza overlay and a train. Amy bought it from Young Romantics in her home town of Wisbech.

Accessories

Amy’s jewellery was made with Swarovski crystals and pearls. Her earrings were her ‘something borrowed’ from one of her bridesmaids, and she had her necklace made to match – both were very simple drops.

He wore

All of the male members of the bridal party wore chocolate brown suits with ivory shirts and dress ties and waistcoats in a latte colour, hired from Robert Goddards of Wisbech.

Bridesmaids

Amy had four gorgeous bridesmaids. The three adult ones wore teal-coloured A-line strapless gowns, with beads around the middle in the same colour. The flower girl wore a beautiful ivory satin and organza dress detailed with emroided butterflies along the bottom. It also had an ivory sash that tied into a butterfly at the back.

Flowers

All the flowers were ivory and cream, and were a mixture of mostly lilies, roses and green foliage. Amy’s bouquet was a tear drop shape, the bridesmaids carried hand-held posies tied with ribbon in the same colour as their dresses. The flower girl carried a ball of flowers on a ribboned handle to match the teal of the bridesmaids, it was also scattered with silver butterflies to complement her dress.

Transport

Amy’s father has restored a 1948 vintage car (a Riley RMA) over many years and finished it in time to be able to take her to church in it. He drove her to church himself, and Amy really cherished this special time together.

Ceremony

Reception décor

Amy sourced every little detail herself and wanted everything to match their colour scheme, which was a challenge at times. The table centres were round mirrors with tealights with tall lilies in the middle. The table confetti was a mixture of silver and teal hearts. The place cards, table names and menus all cordinated with the rest of the stationery that Amy had made herself, with the help of her friend Lou who did all the writing.

Cake

Neither the bride nor the groom likes fruit cake and wanted to have something quite fun and different so they brain stormed their ideas with a lady called Jo who runs Simply Scrumptious Cakes near Wisbech. In the end, they plumped for a three-tier, square chocolate fudge cake. It was covered in chocolate covered icing and decorated with teal ribbon and chocolate curl explosions. Rather than a traditional cake stand , the top two tiers rested on square vases filled with malteasers.

Favours

The adults received little chocolate brown boxes filled with three heart chocolates tied with a chocolate coloured organza ribbon. The children received individual goodie bags to keep them occupied during the wedding breakfast and reception.

Music

Amy walked up the aisle to the Trumpet. During the wedding breakfast a CD of songs they had compiled was played – it was mainly rat pack and jazz songs that the couple loved or that meant something to them. It included tracks from Frank Sinatra, Jamie Cullum and Robbie Williams. Their first dance was to Amazed by Lonestar.

Theme

The colours 'Chocolate and Teal', appeared in the stationery, flowers, outfits, decorations and literally in the form of the cake and favours. The tables were New York-themed because part of the honeymoon was to be spent there. The top table was 'The Big Apple', and the others were called 'Times Square', '5th Avenue', 'Broadway' and 'Central Park'.

Bride’s tip

"Make things yourself!" Amy loved creating the stationery, favours and table plan, and it was much more personal as a result.

Special moments

Amy says that every second of the day was special. She admits to planning it to within an inch of its life, and those around her were worried that she wouldn't be able to let go on the day and enjoy it but she did!

Honeymoon

Amy and Gary jetted off to Florida and New York. It was Gary's 30th birthday while they were in Forida and Amy’s 26th while they were in New York, making it even more special!

Groom’s tip

"Make the time to speak to all your guests, spend time with your new wife and take it all in!"
