Where is it?
This stunning country house hotel and spa is set among the rolling Mendip Hills in Somerset, just 25 minutes from the M4, with historic Glastonbury just 15 minutes away.
What’s great about it?
A favourite of the celebs because of its laid-back nature and secluded location, this is the perfect country venue. There are 25 individually designed bedrooms, created by one-time Mulberry owner Roger Saul. Some are on a grand scale with sumptuous bathrooms and working fireplaces. Others offer a more intimate atmosphere and some even have their very own secret gardens providing a ‘house party’ feel. Charlton House menus are truly unique, offering an alternative to wheat, including freshly baked croissants made from organically grown Spelt from local farm, Sharpham Park.
What facilities are there?
As well as the stunning house itself, you’ll find Monty’s Spa, where all the products are completely natural. You can even buy the products to take home from montyspa.com. There are tennis courts if you want to be a little more active. Wireless internet is also available in the Orangery and selected bedrooms.
Can you get married here?
Charlton House is licensed for civil wedding ceremonies, which can be held in the beautiful Orangery, overlooking the gardens. This room can then be transformed into your reception area or you can choose to use the nearby marquee. Smaller, private receptions can be held in the restaurant. Each day is individually tailored to meet your specific requirements, and Charlton House’s event co-ordinator can recommend the best local services to use. You and the girls can have beauty treatments the day before in Monty’s Spa, while the boys set off to the local quad-biking track for some male bonding!
