Make your wedding day memories in a beautiful, award-winning West Country venue, steeped in history...Pippa Ward spent a night in this historic somerset venue.
Why go?
What could be more romantic than tying the knot in a castle steeped in history, drama and romance? Once a Norman fortress, The Castle at Taunton has been welcoming travellers since the 12th Century. Today The Castle is run by The Chapman Family who have been in charge for the last 60 years and who have seen the venue receive commendations from The Good Food, RAC and AA Guides.
What about the facilities?
The Castle has 44 en-suite rooms providing a variety of accommodation including the Penthouse and the Garden suite. All are individually decorated with LCD TVs, WiFi and more. There is an award-winning fine dining restaurant serving the finest, locally sourced food and a contemporary brasserie next door called BRAZZ where wedding breakfasts can be held.
Can you get married there?
Yes, their small team of experienced staff are on hand to help you plan the perfect day. The Castle has two rooms for civil ceremonies. The Moat Room is located on the ground floor and is perfect for intimate ceremonies of up to 24 guests.
If you’re planning a larger celebration, the Monmouth Room can accommodate up to 80 guests for the ceremony. Photographs can be taken in the beautiful Norman rose garden while guests have their champagne reception in BRAZZ. There are two inclusive wedding packages or the team are happy to discuss your special requirements. For smaller parties, private dining is also available.
