Wow factor
I want to add a real wow factor to my wedding – what’s hot for weddings in 2008? I really hate chocolate fountains so don’t even go there!
Charlotte, Lincoln
Anthony says: "Darling, I agree! There are many lovely little extras you could have, from amazing entertainment to posh nosh. If you are looking for a sophisticated and decadent food treat, I would have to recommend Berrylicious. They create huge towers of strawberries, dipped in chocolate and coconut – they look fantastic and taste divine."
Planning nightmare
I have met with a wedding planner recently and she seems really nice, but she took my original idea of black and white and ran with it. She’s started suggesting things that I really don’t want, but she says that it will look amazing. Should I just trust her?
Carrie, Southampton
Anthony says: "Oh dear the overzealous wedding planner dilemma! As a planner myself, I know how easy it is to get carried away and when you work with a fun couple who you really like, it is sometimes difficult to not take the day very personally. However, it’s not her day and she must carry out your wishes! Is it that you don’t like her suggestions or do you just feel you are losing the control of your wedding? Whatever the reason, be assertive and make sure that whatever plans are laid down are yours and that you are 100% sure that you like them."
Seating panic
My parents are divorced and while my fiancé and I get on with my mum’s new partner, we’ve not really hit it off with my dad’s girlfriend. Any suggestions on seating plans?
Amy, Bath
Richard says: "What to do with divorced parents’ partners is becoming a common question. The first question I would ask is are your parents on friendly terms? If so, I would stick to the original etiquette of your parents only on the top table, with your parents’ new partners among the general guests. If you feel you have to include them, I would suggest that the new partners are placed at either ends of the top table."
Spending plan
We have a budget of £15,000 and I am just starting to set money aside for each area. Where should I spend the most? We’re having a civil ceremony and I’m thinking a city venue would be nice as most of our family come from London.
Melanie, London
Richard says: "When it comes to budget, it always depends on how many guests you wish to invite. Many London hotels will charge between £30-£50 per head for a reception drinks and dinner package (that’s without wine), so for 100 guests you have already spent up to a third of your budget. Shop around and don’t forget that a wedding planner should be able to get you a slightly better deal than the published prices."
