The Ex-factor

"My fiancé is still good friends with his ex from years ago and he's asked me if I'd be comfortable with her being there on the big day. How can I say NO WAY in a nice way?"

Jackie, Southend

How about: "Sweetie if you invite her I won't be there." But really, this is not on - under NO circumstances should she attend. Explain to your man that you're uncomfortable with her attendance and that while you appreciate their friendship, this day is about the two of you and exes should not be there!

Dancing together

"I am hopeless at dancing and my fiancé isn't much better. How can I avoid doing a first dance without everyone moaning? Is there anything else we can do instead?"

Debbie, Barnet

You don't need to be Ginger Rogers - you are sharing the day with loved ones, you shouldn't be embarrassed, although I do understand. If you really don't want to dance, go for the new craze - Marryoke! It involves all your guests so you won't be standing on your own, it has little or no dancing and the beauty of it is that you mime!

Firework alternatives

"I've always dreamt of fireworks as the grand finale to our wedding, but our venue won't allow them! What else can I have that's spectacular?"

Julie, Worcester

There are usually many reasons why venues won't allow fireworks, so check what the specific issues are. A fab alternative is Fire Poi or Light Poi (if fire isn't allowed), which is very impressive. Also amazing are trapeze artists performing under a floating balloon, lit from inside - see thedreamengine.co.uk. Or Thai Floating Lanterns are silent but create a huge wow factor.

Vital insurance

"Do I really need wedding insurance? I'm having a wedding planner and they should sort out any problems, shouldn't they?"

Sarah, Brighton

We can only do so much! We can't control the weather or prevent the bride breaking her leg the week before the big day. These things do happen and in many circumstance, if you have insurance and need to postpone, you can get some money back. We suggest you get a good policy from a reputable company like weddingplan.com and read all info, however boring!
