Real Wedding - Emma and Darren

Real Wedding - Emma and Darren

WHERE: Victoria, Australia

WHEN: 7th January 2006

PHOTOGRAPHER: M Williams Photography

HOW THEY MET

Darren and Emma met through a mutual friend when they were 16, but they didn't start dating until they were 20.

THE PROPOSAL

Darren surprised Emma on a boat trip on The Nile while holidaying in Egypt - he popped the question while they were in the pool.

SHE WORE

Emma’s gorgeous ivory dress was designed by Penny Davison at Classe 1 in Cambridge.. The full-length fitted dress, made of duchess satin, featured a lace sweetheart neckline with pretty detail and shoestring straps.

ACCESSORIES

Emma wore a string of pearls with matching dainty drop earrings. She finished her outfit with beautiful diamante strappy wedge sandals.

HE WORE

Darren bought his dinner suit from Ray Croft in Colac, Victoria, Australia. The black trousers gave a traditional look to compliment his ivory jacket and tie.

THE BRIDESMAIDS

The four bridesmaids wore bespoke, knee-length cream dresses with beautifully embroidered organza overlays.

THE FLOWERS

Emma posy style bouquet was made up of delicate cream roses. The bridesmaids each carried cream lace umbrellas to match their dresses.

THE RECEPTION

To tie in with their beach theme, Emma and Darren named their tables after local beaches. Emma also hired large candleholders and placed rocks and shells around them in the centre of each table.

BRIDES TIP

“Because we were travelling to the other side of the world for our ceremony we decided to keep things simple and didn’t fuss about the little details. We used websites where possible and local contacts who referred us to other services. We were on a budget so we did a lot of things ourselves and had help from our family for many parts of the day.”

THEME

They decided on a theme of an old-world wedding with a hint of contemporary for some added flare, with an underlining beach theme.

SPECIAL MOMENTS

“As I made the invitations and place names myself I felt a real sense of achievement – it was great to see how everything had come together. The ceremony was very special too as it was a Catholic service on the beach. It was so relaxing being at one with god and nature at the same time.”

THE CAKE

Each of the three tiers was a different flavour – white chocolate, chocolate mud cake and traditional fruitcake – all topped with sugared roses and decorated with intricate icing swirls.

GROOMS TIP

“I found that getting my suit from a store with facilities to dress mannequins helpful, because I could step back and look at the suit.”

THE HONEYMOON

Emma and Darren had a fantastic few days in Malaysia, on the beautiful tropical island of Pankor Laut.
